WHERE WE COME FROM

The Lab was founded in 2005 by Lindsey Gates, whose family has lived on Lake George for more than a century. Ms. Gates, a graduate of New York University's Classical Studio, is an accomplished stage actress who has worked off Broadway and in regional theaters nationwide. Likewise, the actors, playwrights, and directors of the Lab have also worked both on Broadway and off, and around the country.

COMPANY MEMBERS

LINDSEY GATES (Artistic Director) founded the Lake George Theater Lab with her husband, Jesse McKinley, in 2005. As an actress, she has appeared on stage, film and television on both coasts. Recent credits include "Far Away" and "I Have Loved Strangers" with San Francisco's Just Theatre, and the off Broadway premiere of "The Legacy Codes" (Pan Asian Rep) in New York/. Other regional credits: Strindberg's "The Pelican," and a children's production of "Peter Rabbit," both at the Hanger, and "The Kitchen Sink Play" and "OTMA" at the 2005 Lake George Theater Lab. In New York, where she received a BFA from New York University, she appeared numerous productions and readings, including one alongside Kevin Kline and Paul Newman at Lincoln Center. Film and television roles include "Strangers with Candy," "Vamps," and "LA Firefighters" and a strange cameo in the Oscar-winning film "Lost in Translation." In 2004, she produced her most glowing creation: her son Jake.

JESSE McKINLEY (Producer/Bus Driver) is a playwright and journalist. In print, Jesse is the San Francisco bureau chief of the New York Times. Prior to his relocation to the West Coast, Jesse was on the culture desk for eight years, covering Broadway and the American theater, pop culture, comedy, and the occasional celebrity meltdown. In the mid-1990s, he covered California as a freelancer for the Times, before joining the City Weekly desk, where he covered the East Village, downtown Manhattan, and all the night life therein. He joined the Times staff in 2000. In his other hat, Jesse is the author of several big long plays, including "Quick Bright Things," "The Body," "Apocrypha," and most recently, "The Theory of Everything." He is currently at work on his first novel, "Trash," which he will likely never finish.

GABRIEL McKINLEY'S (Resident Playwright)plays include The Kitchen Sink Play (Lake GeorgeTheater Lab), Love Sick (NY Fringe), Welcome Home RockRogers (NY Fringe) and Funny. His short play The Graveis a finalist in the Samuel French Short Play Festival. Mr.McKinley is currently studying playwriting with Christopher Shinn in TheNew School for Drama's masters program.

MICHAEL BARAKIVA (Resident Director) is a half-Armenian/half-Israeli, New York City-based director. SHOKO KAMBARA (Resident Designer) Recent projects include The Kitchen Sink Play and OTMA (Lake George Theater Lab), NERDS:// A Musical Software Satire (New York Musical Theatre Festival, 2005). As an assistant designer she has worked with Derek McLane on Lestat, Little Women, I Am My Own Wife, all on Broadway, and The Sondheim Celebration at the Kennedy Center.

ROSEMARY ANDRESS (Director) is delighted to return to the Lake George Theater Lab after directing The Comedy of Errors here in 2007.

Rosemary has been a Teaching Artist at: Montclair State University where she directed Machinal by Sophie Treadwell, Yale University, where she directed Noises Off , The American Academy of Dramatic Art, where she directed the graduating company in Masterpieces by Sarah Daniels, The University of Missouri Kansas City, where she conducted development workshops for and directed the premiere production of Smoking Kills by Dominic Legett, CCCC in Plano, TX, where she directed The Shape of Things by Neil Labute and Light Up The Sky by Moss Hart, Bard College in Upstate New York, where she directed Much Ado About Nothing, Manhattan Class Company where she directed Finesse by Vera Williams as part of their education program.

Rosemary was the Associate Artistic Director of Horse Trade Theatre Group for three years, where she directed: The World Might Be Uninhabited by Said Syrafizadeh as part of The Cauldron/SF Festival, Twelfth Night at Under St. Marks, and Much Ado About Nothing at the Kraine Theater (the latter two were co-productions with Fang Theater Company); she also produced The Secret Narrative of the Phone Book by Gordon Cox for Horse Trade in January 2005.

Rosemary attended the Andrew W. Mellon graduate directing program at the Juilliard School under Michael Kahn, Joanne Akalaitis, and the late Garland Wright, where her credits included: the world premiere of Pavane by Alexandra Cunningham, The Maids by Jean Genet, The Jewish Wife and The Informer by Bertolt Brecht, and Homefires by John Guare. She was invited back to Juilliard as a Guest Artist to directed the 20th annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, and interdisciplinary gala featuring current students and distinguished alums.

Rosemary is a member of the SSDC, a member of the Lincoln Center Director's Lab, a 2003 Finalist for the NEA/TCG Director's Grant, a Usual Suspect with New York Theater Workshop, and a recipient of the David Merrick Award in theater.

ERICA BECK HEMMINGER (Costume Design/Asst. Scenic Design) BFA in Fine Art, Carnegie Mellon University; MFA in Scenic Design, The Theatre School at DePaul University. TEDDY ALVARO ("Two Gentlemen of Verona") is a graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where he studied at the Meisner Extension, the Classical Studio, and the Experimental Theater Wing. Past credits include: Salvatore in The Rose Tattoo, Circle in the Square (Broadway); Decius Brutus in Julius Caesar, Nately/Milo Minderbinder in Catch 22 (Aquila, Nat'l Tour) Mercutio in Romeo & Juliet (Aquila Young Audience Reading); Longaville in Love's Labor's Lost, Theseus in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Cloten in Cymbeline (Neoclassical Ensemble); Baz in A Bright Room Called Day, King Peter in Leonce & Lena, and Charlie in The Country Doctor (Collegiate).

MATT BERGER ("Two Gentlemen of Verona") is an NYC based theater artist working as an actor, writer, and musician. He has composed music for the New York Neo-Classical Ensemble's productions of 12th Night ('08), Cymbeline ('07) and A Midsummer Night's Dream ('07) as well as for numerous short films and stage pieces. He worked as a Baryshnikov Arts Fellow under Joanne Akalaitis ('06) and traveled to Warsaw to participate in the International Theatre Schools Festival ('07). Matt has appeared Off-off Broadway in Tom Thumb the Great (La Mama, '04) and Stone Cold Dead Serious (the Clurman at Theatre Row, '07). He has starred in two short films, Fuzz ('06) and Three Graveyards ('07). Matt is the guitarist and lead songwriter for the NYC band 'the Hey!' (www.myspace.com/thehey). He is a 2006 graduate of NYU's Experimental Theatre Wing.

SHAWNA CATHEY ("Stage Manager, "Two Gentlemen of Verona") is excited to be returning to work with Lake George Theater Lab for a second year. Since her last production with LGTL she has been busy working on projects with Stepping Stones Productions, The Theater Company At Debaun Auditorium in Hoboken, and Bronx Prep Charter School, as well as launching a new project with Aditi Pictures. She is looking forward to a very busy but fun filled year and summer with LTGL.

BILLY GRIFFIN ("Two Gentlemen of Verona") is a native of Buffalo, NY and a recent graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts where he studied at the Meisner Extension, The Classical Studio and The Experimental Theater Wing. Recent favorite roles include Malvolio in The New York Neo-Classical Ensemble's production of "Twelfth Night," The Puppeteer in an original work, "The Ballad of Thimblebear," and King Richard in The Classical Studio's production of "Richard III." Billy was last seen in The American Theater of Actors' production of "Henry VI, Part I" as the Dauphin, Charles.

DANIEL HEATH (Playwright, "Leo") lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and writes plays for local theater companies, including Playground, PianoFight, and the Playwright's Center of San Francisco. He is a two-time winner of the Playground Emerging Playwright Award, and a recipient of the Playground Fellowship full-length play commission for 2008-2009. He also writes fiction and essays, and spends his daylight hours as a consultant helping philanthropic organizations use technology to save the world and stuff. He spent his undergraduate years in Ithaca, NY, and is happy to see his work headed back to the neighborhood (more or less).

DALIYA KARNOVSKY ("Two Gentlemen of Verona") holds a B.F.A. from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where she studied both classical and experimental theatre, and went on to create, produce, and star in Everyone Else is Screaming: A New Musical Work. Daliya recently appeared in New York Neo-Classical Ensemble's Twelfth Night (Maria) and Pericles (Dionyza). This past winter, she assistant-directed the highly acclaimed Edward II off-Broadway with Red Bull Theater. She has also toured with Chamber Theatre Productions and recently appeared off-off-Broadway in MCT's Goodnight, Moon: The Musical. Daliya performs her solo work around the NYC area, and is writing an original musical to be produced this summer.

MARC LEVASSEUR (Antonio/Duke, "Two Gentlemen of Verona") BFA from NYU 2007. This is his first time working with the Lake George Theater Lab. AARON LOEB (Playwright, "Panopticon")Berkeley, CA playwright Aaron Loeb's full-length play, First Person Shooter, was world premiered in 2007 by SF Playhouse and PlayGround. It won the San Francisco Bay Area Theater Critic Circle's award for Best Original Script, 2007 and will be performed by City Lights Theater Company in San Jose and Capital Stage in Sacramento next season. His next play, Abraham Lincoln's Big Gay Dance Party will be world premiered at SF Playhouse this December. His short plays have been featured in six Best of PlayGround Festivals, the San Francisco Fringe Festival and the Bay Area Playwrights Festival BASH. BETH LOPES ("Two Gentlemen of Verona") received her BFA in Drama from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Recent roles include the Queen in Cymbeline, Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Moth in Love's Labor's Lost, all with the New York Neo-Classical Ensemble.

NANCY MAGARILL ("Two Gentlemen of Verona") has spent the last 4 years composing for NYU's Classical Studio productions as well as writing, recording and performing with the Sirius String Quartet and other artists. She has been the past recipient of the ASCAP Emerging Artist Award and currently hosts a monthly performance series "the pARTY" in Brooklyn. The new record, "Down below the Rodeo"; is now available at CDbaby, on iTunes and on Nancy Magarill.com.

MOLLY RHODES (Playwright, "Three Divided into One") is a playwright currently living in San Francisco. Her play Three Divided Into One was originally developed and produced through PlayGround, where Molly has had several short plays developed and produced and received the 2007 PlayGround Fellowship to develop her full length The Singularity of We. Her short plays have also been performed at American Conservatory Theatre, the Bay Area Playwrights Festival and the 6 Women Playwriting Festival. Molly's full length For All the Babies' Fathers was a semifinalist at The Playwrights' Center PlayLabs 2008, had staged readings at Magic Theatre and Playwrights Center of San Francisco and will have its world premiere at Brava Theater Center in April 2009. Molly is an artistic associate at Magic Theatre, where she coordinates the literary committee and oversees the development and creation of dramaturgy for Magic's productions. She was also named one of twelve Up & Coming local playwrights by Theatre Bay Area and was part of their inaugural playwrights' showcase. She graduated from Yale University and has studied playwriting at the University of Washington and NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

When Molly is not working on plays or in the theatre, she raises money for At The Crossroads, a nonprofit that does counseling-based street outreach to homeless youth in San Francisco. She is also a freelance theatre critic for the San Francisco Weekly.

DANIEL SPECTOR (Director, "Two Gentlemen of Verona") is the Assistant Director of The Classical Studio, an advanced training program at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. He is the Director of Training for the New York Neo-Classical Ensemble and directed their inaugural production of Love's Labor's Lost at the Baryshnikov Arts Center. He has directed or coached on 17 of Shakespeare's plays, written extensively on performance, appeared as a principle demonstrator in the hit fitness video, Ballet Bootcamp II, and once gave a very awkward interview to Men's Health for his tips on applying acting techniques to dating.

KATHERINE WILKINSON (Associate Producer/Assistant Director, "Two Gentlemen of Verona" and "Four by Four") is an undergraduate Dramatic Art and Communications Studies major at UNC-Chapel Hill. She was trained in acting and directing at the Walnut Hill boarding school for the Arts in Massachusetts, and has also studied at UCLA, the Walnut Street theatre, Bryn Mawr Conservatory of Music, London Drama school, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She spent last summer in San Francisco interning at The Magic Theatre developing new plays and performance. Most recently, Katherine directed the 2008 Vagina Monologues at UNC and starred in such original plays as "Hamlet Story", "The Bell Witch" and "Lethal Theatre". She is overjoyed to work with the Lake George Theatre lab.

DANIEL ABELES ("Comedy of Errors") Daniel is thrilled to be part of this production. Favorite roles include: "George" in Our Town, "Weston" in 5th of July, "Slim" in Of Mice and Men, and "Phil" in the US premier of Falling Petals. He has worked on several films including: Gasoline, directed by Andy Hulse, based on a story by Sam Shepard. Training: NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Atlantic Theater School, Stonestreet Studios. Daniel enjoys music, crosswords, and consuming copious amounts of Tabasco.

LINDSEY ANDERSEN ("Twelfth Night") has been performing professionally in New York for the last four years. Recent projects include Off-Broadway: The Contrast, Richard & Anne, The Master Builder. NYC: Love's Labours Lost, Bury the Dead, Who Will Carry the Word?, The Marriage of Bette & Boo, Hay Fever. Regional: Pericles, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Electra, Charlotte's Web. JONATHAN BOCK ("Comedy of Errors") recently graduated cum laude from Vassar College with a major in Drama. At Vassar: Taming of the Shrew, The Tempest, A Midsummer Night's Dream, As You Like It, Quills, Fool for Love, and Look Back inAnger. He also spent a semester at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, where he played Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing. Shakespeare in the Valley in Waterville Valley, NH: Much Ado About Nothing, A Midsummer Night's Dream.

EDWARD BOROEVICH ("Gin/Jazz/Love/Drama") Edward played the role of Brewster in Austin Pendleton's production of The American Clock at HB Playwrights Foundation. He also appeared in Five By Tenn, a collection of never-before-seen plays by Tennessee Williams, both at Manhattan Theatre Club and for the world premiere at The Kennedy Center. He originated the role of Woodson Bull III in Wendy Wasserstein's Third at Theater J in Washington DC. TV: "All My Children" and "Guiding Light." Edward received his MFA from the Shakespeare Theatre Company Academy, under the direction of Michael Kahn.

SHAWNA CATHEY (Stage Manager) is a graduate of New York City College of Technology with a degree in Entertainment Technology.

ADAM CERNY ("Comedy of Errors") is a recent graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University with a BFA in theatre arts. Recent roles there include Prior Walter in both parts of Angels in America, Banquo in Macbeth, Jesus in Godspell, and many others. Regional credits include Paul in A Chorus Line (Countryside Theatre) and Wayne Frake in State Fair (Quad City Music Guild). He enjoys all forms of theatre and is very excited to be working with the Lake George Theatre Lab. He currently resides in New York City.

Upcoming projects include: Williamstown Theatre Festival and a featured spot in a concert at Town Hall on July 23rd. GINA FANTOZZI (Production Associate) graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where she studied acting at Cap21 and the Classical Studio. Most recently she appeared in the Columbia Grad film "Gloss Your Lips" as the murderous Katrina and as Dottie the surly waitress in the independent film "The City."

EMILY FINK ("Gin/Jazz/Love/Drama," "Comedy of Errors") Graduated from Vassar College in 2003 with a double major in psychology and theater. Past credits include: Portia (Julius Caesar), Barbara (Sympathetic Magic), Emma (Pterodactyls), Stepdaughter (Six Characters in Search of an Author) and Iago (Othello).

SUZANNA FOX ("Comedy of Errors") Suzanna is a graduate from the performing arts conservatory of Point Park University where, in 2005, she earned her BFA in acting with a minor in music. She has since moved to New York City to further her acting/directing/waitressing career. Favorite credits include Macbeth, Hamlet, Godspell, Sweeny Todd, The Secret Garden, Amish Burlesque, and voicing radio commercials in Baltimore, MD.

RYAN W. GATES (Technical Advisor/ Technical Director) primarily works as a producer and director in film, television, and interactive media. Some of his recent credits include "The Members Project" for American Express, Bank of America's "Freedom Banking" campaign, and "Watch and Whoa" for Ice Breakers Sours which won the 2007 Silver MIXX Award for Super Rich Media. Mr. Gates was the director of many kids TV shows such as the international hit "Gagsters" now airing in America under the title "Kids Behaving Badly." In 2005 he joined The Lake George Theater Lab as the Technical Director for the "Kitchen Sink Play," and again in 2006 for "OTMA" and "Twelfth Night." Currently he is producing a feature documentary, a feature independent film, Ethan Gold's latest music video, and helping out wherever he is needed with the theater lab.

AARON GONZALEZ (Artistic Associate, "Gin/Jazz/Love/Drama") is a recent graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts Directing Program, Aaron has worked professionally in NY as a Director, Producer, Stage Manager, P.A., Board Op, Light /Sound/Set and Mask Designer, Assistant Dir., Asst. SM, Light Crew, Run Crew, and Teacher. FOR: Lake George Theatre Lab, Howling Moon Cab Company, Lincoln Center Institute, Roundtable Theatre Ensemble, Oberon Ensemble Theatre, Small Pond Ent., Harmony Ent., Martian Ent., NYMF, Flying Swine, Amas Theatre, Premiere, and the NY Philharmonic on Lonny Price's production of Camelot. MICHAEL P. GUAGNO ("Comedy of Errors") Trained at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in the Fall where he trained at the Atlantic Acting School, Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, and the Stonestreet Film and Television Acting programs. Most recent credits include appearances at the Cherry Lane and Public Theaters in NYC as well as the Attic's production of Max Frisch's The Firebugs in which he played Biedermann.

MARTA KUERSTEN ("Comedy of Errors") Appeared in The Potluck Plays with Milk Can Theatre Company, and also in the world premiere of Bordertown at Manhattan Repertory Theatre.

NEIL MAGNUSON ("Twelfth Night") Neil Magnuson is a graduate of Tisch School of the Arts. He is thrilled to be back with the Lake George Theater Lab. He was last seen headed north on 9N with all our beer. He should be considered very employable. Go Chiefs. Seriously, they need to get it done this year.

KIP MARSH (Lighting Designer, "Gin/Jazz/Love/Drama") Kip heads the program in design and production at Brooklyn College's Department of Theater. Recent and notable set designs include: Everything will be Different at Soho Rep, Karla by Steve Earle (Lights), Spin Moves and A Wife's Tale at The SPF-2004 and '06, Pericles with Red Bull Theater, Principal lighting designer with Les Ballets Trockadero, Associate Set Designer on Imaginary Friends (Broadway), and Assistant Set Designer on The Contract, National Ballet of Canada.

CHAP MELFORD ("Comedy of Errors") Circle in the Square Theatre School, Westchester Community College. Credits include Arthur Miller's A View From the Bridge, in which he played Eddie Carbone, and a modern version of Aristophanes' Lysistrata, for which he co-wrote the music and also played Kinesias.

STACIE JOI PERLMAN ("Twelfth Night") is thrilled to be back in the Adirondacks! She holds a BA in Theatre from the State University of New York at New Paltz. She has worked regionally with Allenberry Playhouse (Jesus Christ Superstar, A Grand Night for Singing), Naples Dinner Theatre (The Who's Tommy, Schoolhouse Rock Live), and in NYC at the WOW Café Theatre, Emerging Artists Theatre, and the Pantheon Theatre. Stacie has also sailed the ocean blue, performing on Royal Caribbean's Voyager of the Seas. Favorite roles include: Lizzie in The Rainmaker, Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd, Maria in Twelfth Night, and Rabbi/Ethel Rosenberg in Angels in America. Stacie is currently seeking representation. MARIA THAYER ("OTMA") After being born on a bee farm (really) in Boring , Oregon (really) to a family of people allergic to bees (really), Maria studied at the Juilliard School. She was in "Hair" where she was the only one fully dressed during the nude scene and performed in the world premiere of Eve Ensler's "Necessary Targets" where she was the only one nude during a fully dressed curtain call. She did other plays, too, including Nina in "The Seagull." Her television credits include NBC's "Miss Match," CBS's "Big Apple," BBC's "12:21" and "Law and Order." Her film work includes Todd Solondz's "Storytelling," "Hitch," with Will Smith, and "Scratch" for which she won Best Actress at the Columbia Film Festival (presented to her by Chevy Chase, presumably last year's winner). Maria originated the character of Tammi Littlenut on "Strangers with Candy" on Comedy Central, and reprised her role in the current film version of the television show. Film: "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "Accepted," "Hitch."

BRYAN TULL ("Comedy of Errors") Trained at the Barrow Group Theater School in New York along with Shakespeare and Company in Lenox, Massachusetts. In September Bryan will be attending the one-year classical acting program at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

GREG STEINBRUNER (Director, "Twelfth Night") has had an active career as an actor in NYC working Off-Broadway, Regionally and Downtown. He is the artistic director of Fifthstreet Theatre Inc for whom he has written and directed four original pieces: Poor Pilgrim's Plenty, Too Rustic!, The How To Be A Red Hot Shakespearean Lover Workshop, and Les Artistes. He teaches Shakespeare at the 78th Street Theatre Lab and will be presenting an original children's musical at 78th Street in the fall. He thanks the excellent people of the Lake George Theatre Lab for their incredible energy and vision, the cast for their hard work, and the community for it's support.

KATE VAN STEENHUYSE (Production Associate) is a painter and recent graduate of the California College of the Arts in San Francisco.

AMY WARD ("OTMA") is a recent graduate of the Juilliard School. She just finished a national tour of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," as Hermia, directed by Joe Dowling. At Juilliard, she appeared in "The Listener," a musical by Craig Lucas; "Black Russian," directed Marion McClinton; "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," as Nurse Ratched. Regional credits include Santa Rosa Rep. Film: "Pirate Radio," "Flying Saucer Rock and Roll."

HEATHER WHALEY (Playwright, "Gin/Jazz/Love/Drama") was born in West Point, NY and grew up in Tehran, Iran, Paris, France and New York. She graduated from Colby College with a BA in English and Performing Arts. Her first play Social Note opened in the Oak Room of the famed Algonquin Hotel in 1997 to critical acclaim and ran for three years. Since then, she has written for stage, film and television. Gin-Jazz-Love-Drama had its first workshop at The Cherry Lane Theater in New York and subsequently at the Westside Arts and the Stamford Center for the Arts Fringe Festival. Heather resides in New York City with her husband, Frank, and two children.

SEAN-MICHAEL WILKINSON ("Comedy of Errors") Graduate of Marymount Manhattan College with a BA in Theatre Performance. Sean-Michael fell in love with Shakespeare during his second year of college and the bond has only grown stronger. He has performed in several classical pieces including A New Way to Please You and A Midsummer Night's Dream and is delighted to be working on Comedy of Errors.
